The Alger Correctional Facility has a total of six housing units. Five are identical, and the sixth has additional beds. Four housing units are general population and two are used for segregation. Other buildings provide food service, health care, maintenance, storage and space for administrative offices.
Prisoner programs include general library, law library, barbering, Adult Basic Education and General Education Development classes. The prison also has substance-abuse treatment, psychotherapy and religious activities. Prisoners are provided on-site routine medical and dental care. Serious and emergency problems are treated via local community providers, the Brooks Medical Center at Marquette Branch Prison and the Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson.
Double fences, gun towers, electronic detection systems, razor-ribbon wire and patrol vehicles make up the perimeter security.
