Gary R. Beauchamp was the former sheriff of Houghton County, Michigan.

History[]

He was born on April 28, 1940, in Mason a son of the late Edward Beauchamp and Myrtle (Schaaf ) Beauchamp-Rivest. Gary was a graduate of the Dollar Bay High School with the class of 1958. He has resided in Mason, Tamarack Mills, Hubbell, Lower Michigan, Dollar Bay and for the past 11 years on the Paradise Rd. Mr. Beauchamp worked for the Quincy Mining Company, Ford Motor Company, himself in the Oil Delivery business, the City of Houghton Police Department, the Houghton County Sheriff's Department for 28 years, 11 years as Under Sheriff and 1 year as Sheriff of Houghton County. After he retired from police work, Gary drove semi for Cuda Company and Blizzard Snow Plows. On September 9, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Delores Oja. Gary was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock. While residing in Dollar Bay, Gary also served as Township Supervisor of Osceola Township for several years. Gary loved his family and was a devote husband, father, and grandfather.

Gary passed away Monday August 1, 2005, at the Marquette General Hospital, shortly after admittance due to an apparent heart attack.
